After falling out of love with bullet journals at the end of last year I’m determined to have a fresh start this year. Once again I’m planning on easing myself in gently and going with a more minimalist approach. This meant saying goodbye to habits like the daily tracker and mood tracker etc. It was just too much pressure. I want to have fun again so here’s what my bullet journal looks like so far for 2018.
I decided to keep the same bullet journal* that I got last September – the Leuchtturm 1917 dotted A5 bullet journal as I loved it. I may not have used it as much as I would have liked but when I did it was a dream. The dotted pages make such a difference when setting up.
So I simply turned the page on 2017 and started fresh with a hello 2018 motif and my goals that I talked about last week. I had a load of washi tapes that were on the end of their roll that I didn’t know what to do with them so I decided to use them here. I like the effect – messy and imperfect. It’s what I’m going for this year.
As I always find them useful I did a year at a glance as well as a tracker for Japan savings. I’d seen someone do something similar to this for a Disney trip on Pinterest somewhere. Plus I thought it might be fun to colour in the blocks every time I raise £100. Fingers crossed I can raise the money now!
I’ve always loved using bill trackers as you can see and this year is no different. It’s nice to be able to see what has been paid and what still needs to go out of my account so I don’t accidentally spend the money meant for it. Ignore the right side a bit as I messed that up and haven’t found a rubber yet. I haven’t filled the tracker out completely yet as I’m a bit picky and like it to be in date order. I don’t know the date for when our internet goes out yet as it’s not going live until next week (missed having wifi so much!) so I’m waiting until then so I can be sure.
As I’m planning on diversifying my income this year, I thought it would be good to have one place to round up how much I’ve made each month. I kinda messed it up so ended up with an extra column I didn’t need (biggest earner) so just came up with something random to fill it.
When it comes to my weight loss, since I’ve been using bullet journals I’ve been going with a graph spread. But overall I’ve found it demotivating so I’m trying this approach of colouring in a block when I lose half a pound. Let’s see if it works. That’s the fun thing about bullet journals, it’s all trial and error and you end up with something that’s perfect for you.
Since I love a good list, I figured it would be a good idea to dedicate pages to my different businesses to have a running to do list for each.
So now it’s time to set up January. I started with goals of course but instead of the usual 10 I used to do, I’ve narrowed it down to 5 so it’s more realistic to achieve.
And then of course the month at a glance. I’ve only just started filling it out but I always find these handy so I avoid double booking myself.
Then I started with my usual weekly goals and daily to do lists.
My 101 in 1001 progress:
This is at the front of my bullet journal and still applies!
House Cleaning Schedule
I didn’t end up using this though I liked the idea. Again I just found it to be too much pressure to tick off all the time.
Master Meal List (and snack list)
So far I am loving the longer days. Summer is on the way! But then that also means our wedding is in 3 and a half months and there is still so much to do (particularly on the DIY front). Nervous squeak*
It’s a long shot as I’ve been doing so dismal lately on the losing weight front but it has to be done. As I mentioned in my 2017 goals post, I gave myself the target of May to reach my target weight. That was so I could have my first dress fitting and not have to worry about my weight after that because let’s face it – who wants to give a crap about that when there’s far more important things?
So I was 1 stone, 6 and a half pounds away from my target in January. So where am I now? I’m 1 stone, 5lbs away. So yes you heard that right. I’ve lost a total of 1 and a half pounds since January. I did get to 1 stone and 2 pounds away but life happened. So obviously I’m not going to be able to lose all that in a month so I just set it at 6 pounds. If I get that I’ll be more than happy as it will get me to the lowest weight I’ve been in almost 10 years.
I’ve been eating so much crap recently that I’m seriously craving fruit right now so I’m going to harness that craving and I’m going to get that 6lbs.
Car boot season is upon us! Not only do I have a couple of boxes for decluttering, but I also want to browse a couple of car boots to try and get a couple of things for wedding DIYs. So hopefully we’ll be able to get one sunny weekend this month to be able to do it.
For my health! I set myself a target of 2 million for the year and during January and February I was no where near my target. March however I didn’t get the 155,000 steps but I did get to 152,689 which is a hell of a lot closer than I got previously. I’m definitely planning on reaching it this month! And I’m already on the way over the last couple of days and this weekend I’m helping my Slimming World consultant leaflet some houses so that will help!
Another sneaky way to get my steps in! And I’ve been planning on getting some old fashioned advertising in for my business for a couple of months now. Last week I finally sat down and designed some so I’m just trying to pick which one is best. What do you think? Which is your favourite?
This has been on my goal list every month but I am no where near. With 3 and a half months to go, I’ve got to step up my game. Especially since my mum has been so kind as to cut out zillions of petals for me. Thanks mum!
With all the rain month I barely got a chance to get in the garden. Currently half the grass has been mowed and that’s it. So this month I want to finish that, put up the border I bought last year and plant some sunflowers. Plus the grass needs some serious weeding!
After installing a new widget that recommends other posts after every blog post, I discovered that I hadn’t set any featured images so half of the photos are blank on it. Oops. So I’ve slowly been going through and adding them in. But with 5 years worth of posts, it hasn’t been a quick job. So I’d love to finish that this month too.
I’ve already been having a busy April with a wedding and my mother in law to be’s 50th!
I kinda dropped the ball on recording my level 10 life during the last week so I really want to keep track this month.
The same goes for my habit trackers. The last week had no data whatsoever. I think I just lost my mojo a bit. It’s definitely back now though!
Today I’m going to show you how I set up my bullet journal for the month. I’ve finally got the perfect routine for me which works great for my lifestyle. In the past I had things that weren’t relevant to me as well as missing out rather important things that I definitely need!
I like to keep things simple but still make things look pretty so washi tape is a big player in that. I finally used my Paperchase voucher I got for Christmas and got myself some awesome washi tapes from the No Problama range. And I couldn’t help myself, I had to get this llama pen too. After spotting it on Instagram it had to be mine…even if it is a bit ridiculous!
Otherwise it’s just good old felt tips for me. I think colour makes a big difference without having to go out and buy a load of stickers. For everything else I have a biro, pencil and ruler for my tables.
I start by making a blank page for me to fill in during the month of things that happened that I’d like to remember. It’s nice to look back on and it makes doing my year in review post in December a breeze! I include nice meals, films we went to see, fun activities and milestones met.
Then it’s time to write down my goals. I completely failed mine for February so here’s hoping that March goes better! I think it’s just because February was such a short month. At least that’s what I’m going to blame it on. I like doing mini goals for the month so that I can refer back to them when I do my week and day to do lists.
The month at a glance is super important to me and I can’t believe I went for so many months without it. Definitely the reason why my year at a glance page was such a mess in my last bullet journal. This gives me plenty of space to write in everything from appointments to birthdays to events that I need to remember.
Level 10 Life is something I’ve done from the very beginning of using a bullet journal after seeing the idea on Pinterest. It’s where you split your life into 10 sections, make goals for each of them then track your progress on the chart by colouring in a section when you’ve done something that counts for that section.
It helps you see the balance in your life. I’ve found it interesting to see where I’m falling short in taking care of myself. Cough finances cough physical health cough.
The habit tracker is another pivotal page for me. It’s been helping me take up new habits as well as tracking how often I do things like reach my step goal for the day and how many days I go without drinking water. Bad Diane. It’s been so useful for reminding me to do things as well like take my medication and that I’ve written in my line a day journal. I wouldn’t do without it.
The mood tracker is a new one that I’ve been using for the last couple of months. This is another idea I saw on Pinterest and thought it would be a good idea to help me know when I work best. I tend to go through phases of having no energy or feeling a bit down as well as other phases of being super motivated and getting loads done. So I wanted to see if there were any patterns that occurred. So far, findings have been interesting but I’ve only been doing it for 2 months so we’ll see.
Then finally it’s my blog editorial calendar. It’s been so much easier having everything in one place. Now that I only blog 3 times a week it’s also taken pressure off me to be producing so much content. As you can see, I had a bit of a special time trying to write out the days of the week that I post. Oops!
After putting down all the days that I post, I fill out my regular posts like my week and top picks then I fill in any posts that I already have the idea for. So far I have zip for March so fingers crossed that changes soon!
Do you use a bullet journal? How do you set yours up for the month?
I know this isn’t a traditional bullet journal but it’s my way and I like it. I bought this Paperchase notebook back in August and have been itching to use it. I added a ribbon I got randomly at the restaurant Cabana for a bookmark. It’s nice to finally have a use for it as I was just about to get rid of it.
So here’s what I’ve done. Firstly and most importantly, is 2017 at a glance. I kinda messed up the formatting in my old bullet journal so the last couple of months of the year had no room for notes. Silly girl. So this one was definitely thought out beforehand.
Next is goals for 2017. I wanted this page to be both pretty and functional. Unlike my old goal list, this one has a lot more room to tick off the smaller milestones on the way to my actual goals which I think will be a great motivator.
After seeing birthday trackers on Pinterest boards I wanted one for my own journal. I’m loving the colour theme going on this page – so tropical!
This bill tracker is a similar layout to one I saw on Pinterest. I thought it would be an improvement on my old one which had no place to actually track when they had been paid. Very silly.
This is pretty much taken straight from my old journal minus the things I’ve already done.
I saw this again on Pinterest and I really liked it as a way of keeping track of things I don’t do as often like changing toothbrushes, washing the car etc. Hopefully it will help me keep on top of things better.
A weight tracker of course. I totally messed up my old one as the measurements were completely out of whack but this one is perfect!
Level 10 life. I found one of my old compass’s at my parent’s house so now I can finally draw perfect circles. It’s really the little things.
And finally, here’s my January habit tracker. As much as I enjoyed colouring in my old one, this will be a lot less time consuming!
So that’s my 2017 bullet journal. Have you got one?
I can’t believe I’ve been using a bullet journal for 8 months now. Though to be fair, this entire year has just flown by. I don’t really know what I did before it came into my life. All I remember was dozens of notebooks, iPhone lists and a shit load of post it notes. That all sounds so stressful just thinking about it.
So since I’m coming to the end of my first bullet journal, I thought I would share my likes, dislikes and what I’m looking forward to implementing in my new one for 2017.
As much as that contradicts my need to buy all the notebooks, it felt really refreshing to be able to have everything in one place. It’s a great size (A5) so I can just chuck it in my bag and take it wherever I go. Plus it never runs out of battery!
I introduced this tracker in May and haven’t looked back. I’ve found it so useful to keep track of all the little things that I need to everyday like take my pill, use the face treatment for my acne, fill in my food diary etc. as well as introducing new habits into my life.
Every month I would dedicate a page where I could list and doodle the things that happened that month. It’s so nice to be able to look back on and see what key things happened each month. Plus, it’s going to make writing my year in review a breeze!
I know that having one is a staple of bullet journalling but in my first one it just didn’t work for me. I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t leave enough space for one that spanned more than two pages or if it just wasn’t for me. I think I’ll give it one more go in my new one and that will allow me the time to double check the reason why.
Yes, another bullet journal staple. I don’t use it. I just make my lists and tick them or use the > sign to say it’s been moved forward. And on the rare occasion where I don’t need to do something anymore at all, I would put a cross. Sorry bujo diehards! I didn’t even try to get into it. Sorry not sorry.
The whole point of a bullet journal is personalising it to yourself. When I first made mine, I don’t think I thought about what I wanted to include a lot of the time. And because of that, there’s a lot of random lists at the beginning of my book that I used once and then never again. So word of advice, just because someone else has a certain page in their bullet journal, it doesn’t mean you have to too.
I did half heartedly add one originally but I didn’t measure it out properly and I didn’t use it. Plus when Slimming World introduced their own journal, I got a free one with a countdown I bought and have enjoyed using that. But they cost £4.95 for a 12 week one and I’d rather use the good bits from it and track it in my bullet journal for 2017.
This one goes hand in hand with the weight loss tracker. The journal also had a meal planner in it so thats something I’d like to transfer over as well as adapting it to suit my needs better. When it comes to food, I plan Thursday to Wednesday because our weigh ins are on a Thursday morning. And also, I don’t need to plan my breakfast and smaller meal of the day. I just have my usual options. It’s the big meal that counts and there’s no point in wasting room on anything else for mine.
I’ve seen these in other journals and I loved the idea. I want to take care of myself more in 2017 and I think this would be a great indicator into seeing how I’m doing and what effects me. For example I noticed that during the super moon we had last month, each night I had a terrible broken sleep. I’m not usually one for the woo woo but it was just something I noticed and want to explore further. I’ve also noticed that there are periods where I just feel really tired and am not up to working so I’d like to pinpoint if there’s any correlation between those times.
Now it’s not really a bullet journal but as much as I like the dotted and numbered pages of an actual one, they just aren’t pretty on the front as I would like. So I bent the “rules” and just got a ruled notebook. Look how pretty!
The difference between this one and my last one was that this one is ring bound which I think will work much better for me. It will give me the freedom to rip out pages if I need to and it will also give me more leeway to use 3D stickers. I love the thought of getting to crack open a new bullet journal on January 1st! Excited 🙂
Have you ever used a bullet journal?
