Slightly Sweary 2018 Goals – A 6 month Update

Insert obligatory “omg how is it already July, lol, blah blah blah” here. And also “why is it so hot, why am I melting” etc etc.

So back in January I set myself some goals. Some pretty sweary goals. For once when I look back 6 months later I can actually say I’m not doing half bad. Here’s how I’m doing with my sweary 2018 goals:

Fuck the Target Weight – Get to Happy Weight

After a bit of a massive false start for the first 5 months of the year in which I got depressed and lumped another stone, I’m finally back on it. I did say that would happen though. Maybe not the extra stone bit but the getting on it in the second half part. I’ve rejoined Slimming World and am back at the gym. And Topher has joined me for both. We’re doing really well so far. Topher has lost 9 pounds and I lost 6 and a half. So here’s to the rest of the year.

Earn some fecking money

Well I got a full time job so that definitely fecking helped.

Stop farting around and book that trip to Japan

Booked! Topher and I will be off to Japan in Easter 2019. I’m so excited! So far we have got our flights and all of our hotels. And we’ve got a saving plan that’s a lot easier to achieve now that I will have a regular pay check. Woop!

Get rid of crap…like seriously you have way too much shit

So I’ve done a couple of car boots but apart from that I really need to get my arse into gear on this goal. Not sure if we’ll have time for any more car boots but now that we’ve got income we don’t have to rely on the cash. So I just need to give a load of stuff to charity and go through everything. Must do this – we seriously still have way too much shit.

Stop feeling so bloody inadequate – you are enough

My mental health has been feeling a whole lot better in this past month. I think mainly because I’ve eased back on social media and have just been focusing on myself and my new job. Now I can just do the things I love for fun and not have to worry about having to pay the bills with it. It’s a massive pressure that has been lifted and I feel so much more confident. It also really helps that my new colleagues actually see me as an asset so I should do the same. I am enough.

So I’m pretty pleased with how I’m progressing. I just need to make my space feel less consumed with stuff and then I’ll be able to breathe!

Did you make any 2018 goals? Sweary or unsweary. How are yours going?

May Goals and Bullet Journal Spread

I’m looking outside right now and it’s so sunny! Hallelujah.

For the first time since January I’m going to talk about my goals for the month (and year) ahead.

  • Get down to 12 stone anything

So I was around 12 and a half stone at the beginning of the year and I have gone in the wrong direction. Due to my down period of the last few months continuing I put on about a stone. So I’m now hovering just below 13 and a half stone. That was a major blow for me as I haven’t weighed that much since 2013. That was my heaviest weight where I felt so unhealthy and decided to join Slimming World for the first time. So I just want to get back to 12 stone anything to make a start on getting on track with my 2018 goal of getting to my happy weight of 11stone. Fingers crossed!

  • Do a car boot sale

There’s so much stuff to declutter in this house. It feels like it will never end but getting to a car boot will definitely help things. And help raise some pennies for our Japan trip next year. We’re hoping to get to a car boot this Sunday as currently my weather app says it will be sunny. I hope it works out as it’s the bank holiday weekend and footfall is usually increased!

  • Get a secure stream of income

I’m really working on that this month. My 2018 goal was to just make some fecking money so I intend on doing that. Will keep you posted.

  • Raise £100 for Japan

I really really really want to go to Japan. It’s such a dream and with what we’ve raised so far it could really be possible for Topher and I to go next summer. So I’m really getting my skates on this month so get another bundle of cash added to our pot.

  • Paint two living room walls white and polyfill holes

Now this one can only happen if I secure some income so fingers crossed. As I mentioned in my 2018 Home Decor Goals post I really want to finish the living room off. Painting the walls grey was a good idea but I think painting all of them grey wasn’t the best as it’s quite a dark room that doesn’t get much sunlight. So I’m injecting a bit of white.

May Goals - main page

As for my bullet journal spread, things have been working for me by keeping things as simple as possible. I’m still using my Leuchtturm 1917 dotted A5 bullet journal* and have been fully in the minimalist zone. However I wanted to inject a bit of colour and creativity back into it. So welcome back washi tapes and coloured felt tips.

I noticed other people using a calendar layout in their bullet journals so I thought I would give it a go. I love how it looks. It of course took longer than my usual list style calendar but it’s a lot easier on the eye. Now I can see the weeks laid out ahead. I think I’ll be keeping this style up.

May Goals - calendar

Of course I had to include a page for my freelance hours. Since taking this photo I’ve added in boxes for each client and it looks pretty good. Much better than my old approaches of just columns where all my clients are shoved in.

And I think I’ll always keep up the weekly goals as otherwise it’s so easy to just lose track of your main goals throughout the month.

2018 Bullet Journal Setup

bullet journal setup - 2018

I finally got round to doing my bullet journal setup for 2018.

After falling out of love with bullet journals at the end of last year I’m determined to have a fresh start this year. Once again I’m planning on easing myself in gently and going with a more minimalist approach. This meant saying goodbye to habits like the daily tracker and mood tracker etc. It was just too much pressure. I want to have fun again so here’s what my bullet journal looks like so far for 2018.

I decided to keep the same bullet journal* that I got last September – the Leuchtturm 1917 dotted A5 bullet journal as I loved it. I may not have used it as much as I would have liked but when I did it was a dream. The dotted pages make such a difference when setting up.

So I simply turned the page on 2017 and started fresh with a hello 2018 motif and my goals that I talked about last week. I had a load of washi tapes that were on the end of their roll that I didn’t know what to do with them so I decided to use them here. I like the effect – messy and imperfect. It’s what I’m going for this year.

bullet journal setup - main spread

As I always find them useful I did a year at a glance as well as a tracker for Japan savings. I’d seen someone do something similar to this for a Disney trip on Pinterest somewhere. Plus I thought it might be fun to colour in the blocks every time I raise £100. Fingers crossed I can raise the money now!

I’ve always loved using bill trackers as you can see and this year is no different. It’s nice to be able to see what has been paid and what still needs to go out of my account so I don’t accidentally spend the money meant for it. Ignore the right side a bit as I messed that up and haven’t found a rubber yet. I haven’t filled the tracker out completely yet as I’m a bit picky and like it to be in date order. I don’t know the date for when our internet goes out yet as it’s not going live until next week (missed having wifi so much!) so I’m waiting until then so I can be sure.

As I’m planning on diversifying my income this year, I thought it would be good to have one place to round up how much I’ve made each month. I kinda messed it up so ended up with an extra column I didn’t need (biggest earner) so just came up with something random to fill it.

When it comes to my weight loss, since I’ve been using bullet journals I’ve been going with a graph spread. But overall I’ve found it demotivating so I’m trying this approach of colouring in a block when I lose half a pound. Let’s see if it works. That’s the fun thing about bullet journals, it’s all trial and error and you end up with something that’s perfect for you.

bullet journal setup - earnings & weight

Since I love a good list, I figured it would be a good idea to dedicate pages to my different businesses to have a running to do list for each.

So now it’s time to set up January. I started with goals of course but instead of the usual 10 I used to do, I’ve narrowed it down to 5 so it’s more realistic to achieve.

And then of course the month at a glance. I’ve only just started filling it out but I always find these handy so I avoid double booking myself.

Then I started with my usual weekly goals and daily to do lists.

Below are some other useful pages I have in my book but there was no need to migrate them forwards.

2018 Goals – Slightly Sweary Goals

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a great night whether it was partying until dawn or curling up on the sofa in some pjs and ringing in the new year with TV and lots of snacks. Topher and I went to a flat party and had a great time.

So I figure I may as well get my 2018 goals set in stone on here so I can start trying to achieve them. I understand that everyone isn’t a fan of goals and resolutions but I am so I’m going to talk about mine here. I’ve been in a bit of a funk the last few months and I need to get my shit together, so I came up with a list of sweary goals to kick me into gear. Whatever works for you, right?

2018 Goals

Fuck the Target Weight – Get to Happy Weight

Since I’ve been doing Slimming World on and off since 2013, I’ve always had a target in my head. 10 stone. It’s how much I weighed when I left for Uni back in 2006 (yowza!) and it’s a healthy weight for my height. Twice I’ve gotten to 11 stone but no further. I’ve never seen a 10 on the scales.

Both times I’ve been super happy with my body at that 11 stone mark but I still wanted to get to my target weight as it’s something I thought I wanted. After getting to my happy weight twice and retreating back up another stone, I finally realise that my happy weight is where I want to be.

I’ve put on a lot of weight in the last couple of months and I’m finding myself feeling as bad as I did when I was at my heaviest. My diet is shit, I’m craving fruit and veg and I’m getting out of breath going up the stairs again. I want 2018 to be the year that I get myself back to my happy weight and stay there. Fuck the target weight – I don’t need it or want it anymore.

So what’s my plan? I don’t think I’m rejoining Slimming World, at least not for the first part of the year – I’m skint and need to save money for other things. I’d like to get myself back at the gym again because that made me feel good. And I’ve already filled the fridge with stuff that isn’t fried so I plan on concentrating on making healthy snacks as that’s my problem area.

Fingers crossed I get there because I’m sick of feeling like shit.

Earn some fecking money

As I wrote in my guilt post, I didn’t push myself at all in 2017 when it came to work. I was playing the comparison game and putting way too much pressure on myself. Therefore I ended up struggling a lot with money – especially in the last few months of the year. I thought that the only way to make money was through Begin.Create and when I didn’t, I was so horrible to myself and didn’t go out and get VA clients as a result.

So I’m going to be easier on myself in 2018 and just say earn some fecking money. I don’t care how but just find a way. Get some more VA clients, figure out what I want to do with Begin.Create, do matched better, affiliate marketing and odd jobs wherever I can find them.

I might even consider getting a part time job to take the pressure off. It’s hard to be creative when you’re worrying about bills that need to be paid. I’m going to consider my options and do my best to just get some money in the bank. Yes money doesn’t buy happiness but let’s face it, it does when you don’t have enough to pay the bills, right?

Stop farting around and book that trip to Japan

I want to go to Japan in 2019. It would be a dream for me. So this goal kinda depends on the previous on to get off the ground. The easiest way would definitely be to get a part time job. I’m not jumping into just anything though. I know how I react in different work environments and I don’t want to sacrifice happiness when that’s what I’ve been working towards since I went freelance.

So yeah, the trip will get booked if I can scrape together the money. Here’s hoping!

Get rid of crap…like seriously you have way too much shit

I’m sure this is on many people’s lists: declutter. It was on my list last year and I did get rid of a load of stuff…it’s just that there’s still so much crap in our house. I swear it’s breeding. So this is my continued task this year. Since we haven’t got a big wedding to deal with this year, I’ll be available for the majority of car boot season. I love car boots – getting rid of stuff and getting money for it. It’s so much more satisfying than eBay. But I will be ebaying a bunch of clothes too as they are worth more.

I’ve already taken out of my wardrobe any clothes that I bought to slim into and they’re in my eBay pile. I’d definitely advise that if you’re losing weight you should only buy clothes to slim into that are the next size down, not any more than that. I had bought stuff in the past that I eventually was able to fit into but this stuff I bought was for my target weight – very silly. As I said above, my target weight is no more so I definitely don’t need these clothes. What a waste of money. Fingers crossed I can get some cash for them.

And finally…

Stop feeling so bloody inadequate – you are enough

I’m sure people can relate when I say that I’m my own worst enemy and I’m sick of being so mean to myself. Overall I would normally describe myself as a happy person but I definitely need to be kinder to myself. I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to get to a point where I can say that I’ve achieved this as I think it’s an ongoing process but it needed to be on my list. I’m turning 30 this year and I want to go into my 30s being a happier, more confident person. So wish me luck.

Do you have any goals or resolutions for 2018?
