My oh my is it dark outside! When did winter get here? Last night I learned chavs love fireworks. Especially ones that go horizontal down the street. And Pickles and Luna do not. Luckily they handled it well after the first lot where they panicked and ran in all directions. Glad that’s over with.
So what’s been up with me? Well it’s all new job starting (for Topher), wedding planning and houses hunting. We are both shattered. We’re just finishing up the second week of Topher being on the same work hours as me. So weird being able to have dinner with him now! It’s been lovely. We eat, watch some tv, see houses together and just hang out. We saw Crimson Peak at the cinema on Monday which was really good. The whole film was just so pretty and also quite scary. It didn’t help we had the whole cinema to ourselves. The cleaner came in near the end and gave us a big scare!
House hunting is going what feels so slow. I have literally looked online at every single house in South Manchester. So now its the agonising wait of seeing the one or two new houses that get added everyday. We’ve had a couple of near misses but so far we haven’t found the one. I’m so impatient! Watch this space.
As for the wedding, it’s been almost a month since we got engaged and the great thing about getting married around 18 months from now is we don’t need to do much right now. Though that didn’t stop me buying an issue of Rock n Roll Bride. We just need to book the venue and the photographer. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Right? Venue hunting is hard! Maybe I’m just really picky but I want something a bit different from the usual registry office or country house weddings I keep seeing on my Facebook feed. The hunt continues.
Onto health. This week Topher and I joined Slimming World again. We were planning on it before Topher proposed – just as soon as we’d eaten all our Disney candy we brought back! We got weighed and found that I was still 13 pounds under the weight I started with – woo! Topher on the other hand put back on all the weight and a couple more pounds. He can get away with it a lot more than I can, being 6ft and all. So with that wakeup call, we spent the rest of the evening calling each other fatties, laughing and vowing to get to our target weights once and for all. Lets do this!
So, how are you?
3am in Florida
Sitting on the terrace, sipping a cold drink and tapping away on my laptop, I find myself far away from home again. As per tradition I spent Christmas Day at home with my family which was lovely and quiet. This was then followed by over 26 hours spent awake travelling to Florida the day after.
Group selfie at the start of the journey…we had no idea what was to come! Safe to say, no one was up for an “after” selfie!
It was pretty hellish as far as journey’s go – with Topher and my dad’s boarding passes suddenly not working at the gate in London, then the car rental place in Florida overselling their cars so people who had pre-paid were left with nothing (do NOT use Thrifty car rental!) to finally topping off the long day with our hotel having oversold their rooms (don’t use hotels involved with timeshare!). We finally got to bed at 5am local time (10am UK time).
Topher at 10pm local time/3am UK time
But that my friends is all behind me now. I can smile safely in the knowledge that I am finally on holiday and the fun can begin! Since Topher and I have come with my family, we’re doing a split holiday between relaxing and going to a couple of parks. I am so excited! The new extension of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a must and I am itching to catch a few (hundred) photos of the Christmas decorations in Magic Kingdom. Not to mention the outlet malls I’ll be taking advantage of.
Anyway, I only got a couple of snaps of what I wore on Christmas Day but you get the gist. Black dress, maroon tights, statement necklace = sorted. I may have forgotten to bring shoes that weren’t converse or sandals…
Dress & tights: Primark, Necklace: Reborn
I’m not used to wearing drop waisted dresses as my waist is usually something I like to highlight. But I couldn’t resist with this one and it’s embroidery detail. Plus it’s super comfy!
How was your Christmas?
I’m tired. Like seriously tired. I now have permanent bags under my eyes. I think I’m close to breaking point. One of these days I won’t get out of bed to go to work. I’ll just stay in and try to forget that I don’t get paid sick days.
But today is not that day. I’ll keep trudging on. I’ll keep travelling four hours a day for a company that don’t give a damn about their employees. For a company that gives the minimum pay, holidays and expect the world for nothing in return. The worst thing is, the final nail in the coffin; paying over half your wages just to get to said job.
I’m tired of walking around like a zombie during the week and wasting my weekends away sleeping. It feels like this past year of my life has passed by so quickly and I haven’t done much with it. I just want to go home. I finally know where home is and it’s not here.
For the past 10 days I’ve been off galavanting in a location quite unknown to me. The UK! I think the last time I had a proper “staycation” in our beautiful country was when I was a very tiny person. So this was brand new territory to me. Topher, his sister Emma, her boyfriend Luther and myself journeyed down to Devon and Cornwall to visit both sets of their grandparents. The weather wasn’t always on our side but we had a brilliant time and I can now say I have driven for 9 hours in one day. I think my previous record was 2 or 3. That escalated quickly.
So over the next week or two I will have to bombard you with holiday photos I’m afraid. I will sandwich in other posts so it’s not too repetitive though.
That’s all for now, just a short one to get me back in the swing of things. I’m also pleased that my scheduled posts actually posted while I was away so that’s pretty nice.
What’s your favourite “staycation” destination?
After a nice couple of days off from blogging, I feel pretty refreshed. Now the only thing that’s standing in my way is my camera’s memory card, or lack of it. What can I say? I’m a slow unpacker. I blame the commute.
A little present Topher got me a couple of weeks ago
There’s a lot of lovely things for me to look forward to this month:
- Blognix – so excited! And I’m looking forward to properly visiting Birmingham for the first time.
- The London to Brighton Trek – though slightly bricking it now – please sponsor, we’re getting close to target!
- My 26th birthday – The first time I’ll ever be working on my birthday but I plan on looking on the bright side as:
- Lady Dinah’s Cat Cafe – I’ll be having afternoon tea there on the weekend after my birthday for a treat. I seriously can’t wait! Cats and tea!
- Hopefully a heatwave? Or is that asking too much?
In the last few weeks I’ve been thinking about my career and where I want to go in life. I think I’ve come to something of a conclusion so will be using this month to do some more research and hopefully begin pursuing it. We shall see.
What are your plans for June?
