My Week – From my sick bed – 1.1.18-7.1.18

Writing from my sick bed again today, lemsip in hand. It’s safe to say that 2018 hasn’t been the year of dreams for me so far. I think I’ll just brush this week under the rug and pretend it never happened. I look around social media and see everyone already achieving so much and it would be really easy to get myself down about it. But I’m not going to do that. I got sick, I can’t help it and the only thing I can do is go easy on myself and take this year at my own pace.

So how was my week? It makes me laugh that I can safely say that I’ve been sick all year. It’s just been a really bad flu so it could be worse. I’ve been in bed most of the week but I was able to venture out of the house for a few hours on Friday when I had a burst of energy.

Topher and I went to the cinema and saw The Greatest Showman and Ferdinand. Both films were really good and it was just what I needed. Ferdinand made us both laugh (though especially Topher – he was giggling more than the kids in the room) and The Greatest Showman was escapism at it’s finest. I enjoyed the film but I loved the soundtrack even more. When I got home I immediately checked Spotify to see if they had it and they did. Score! I’ve been listening to nothing since and it’s been a bright spot in the sea of sneezing, blankets, sore heads and tissues (so many tissues).

To round off a somewhat crappy week, I’ve done some damage to my car. Topher and I headed to the shop today to pick up some cat food and another driver almost crashed into us. It’s a ridiculous piece of road near us that is not clear which combined with the fact that the other person was going way too fast and didn’t realise it was my right of way luckily ended up with no damage to either car. We were both able to stop in time. Just.

So how did my car get damaged? I was flustered I ended up scraping my car alongside a lamppost when I was trying to move it out of the way. The sun was in my eyes and I didn’t see it. Silly silly. Luckily it’s all cosmetic damage as far as I can tell. Poor car.

Week 1 of 2018 is down and good riddance to it. Hopefully that’s all the bad stuff out of the way! Here’s to next week.

My Week #61 – Camping & Cats

*Wifefest *Fish and Chips *Pickles *Working hard

Did not do too much at all this week

The one cool thing was that Topher and I attended the wedding of one of my Freelance Folk friends, Michelle. It was festival themed and called Wifefest. We had such a great time! It was in a barn and there were games and irish dancing and a fish and chip van. Topher and I even stayed overnight in a tent. I’m not much of a camping person (like not at all!) but we survived the night and it was actually pretty fun. Afterwards we headed to a pub near our house for a Sunday lunch and then went to the cinema in the evening. I’ve now seen The Dark Tower and Girls Trip. Both really good.

I put on another 2 pounds at Slimming World

I’ve kinda lost the plot a bit. My focus is completely gone. But I haven’t lost hope. I think I just need to take a bit of time and get the honeymoon out of the way. Once that’s done I can climb aboard the wagon again. One of the Slimming World ladies pointed out to me that once I get back it will be about 14 weeks until Christmas so if I lost a pound a week that’s a stone. Until I get back I’m not going to beat myself up over it. In other news I really seem to have gotten my shopping bug back. And I blame this bag.

my week - bag It’s from Primark and it was all sold out but I managed to find one on eBay. Of course it was more expensive but I just really wanted it! I expect I would have paid that much anyway at another high street store so it doesn’t really bother me. Can’t wait to skip down Main Street with it. Less than 2 weeks to go!

My Week #43 – Travelling, Cinema Trips and Cheesecake

*Nottingham Trip *My friend Leo

*Unlimited Screening at Cineworld *The most delicious cheesecake

This week has flown by!

I’m having trouble remembering everything that happened. Firstly, as you know I took a trip to Nottingham to see my brother which was lovely.

The rest of the week was spent scrambling round trying to get through my to do list. It’s paying off though. I finally found someone to come fix our fence, I booked a hair and makeup artist for the wedding and I’m almost done with my office. Just doing the statement wall and I’ll be able to start moving furniture back in. Topher will be very pleased. He’s not happy with me right now since I filled the guest room (his library) with everything that was previously in my office! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though. So exciting.

I maintained at Slimming World.

With all the lovely food I was eating over the last week it is truly a miracle I didn’t put on any weight. It’s given me the drive to do better this week though. Even if I do have an afternoon tea to attend tomorrow! I’ve been thinking up new ideas for snacks and I’ve just tried something awesome which I’ll share on the blog next week. It’s low syn, sweet and delicious is all I’ll say for now.

Get yourself to Yo Sushi!

Topher and I were up for celebrating yesterday as he found a part time job to fit alongside his school job so yay! We went to Yo Sushi and found they had a new menu. Time to investigate! I loved their hoisin duck bao bun but the real star of the show for me was the Japanese soufflé cheesecake.

I’ve seen it online and thought I’d have to save it for our eventual trip to Japan but they have it right here now so I wasn’t missing the opportunity to try some. Topher wasn’t a fan but he was too besotted with his chocolate mochi (so good!) to give anything else a chance I think. I personally loved it and will definitely be back for another slice.

I love my Cineworld Unlimited Card.

Every once in awhile, Cineworld hold unlimited screenings of films that are coming out soon. This week, Topher, Claire and I went to see Free Fire which I wasn’t expecting to enjoy as much as I did. I really liked it! Plus, as part of the screening we each got a free regular popcorn and they showed 12 minutes of the film Ghost Shell that’s coming out at the end of this month.

And that’s about it. I’m feeling super tired like Pickles is here!

My Week #29 – Markets and Photos and Beasts

*Saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them *The Refuge

*Had a photoshoot for Begin.Create *The Christmas Markets are here!

It’s been a busy week full of work, films and fun. It all started off with the cinema to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. One word: Amazing! I loved it so much and all the way through the film I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I loved it. For once, I’m happy about a film turning into a franchise.

On the Begin.Create front, I had a photoshoot this week with Katya of Katya’s Cake Hole so I now have some pretty pictures to put on my website. Yay! It involved a lot of wandering around Manchester and posing awkwardly while getting heckled by builders! Luckily not one comment was sexist, ha ha!

Yesterday, Topher finally had a day off during the week so we went to the Christmas markets. I was really looking forward to it and we had a lovely day walking around and eating everything. I managed to find a place that did beef sausages for the first time at the markets ever so I happily got a hot dog followed by a mulled wine and a nutella crepe. Still feel full thinking about it.

At Slimming World I lost another pound bringing my total weight loss this time up to 1 stone and 4 and a half pounds. Woop! I’m still 1 stone, 6 pounds away from my target but I’m happy that I’m consistently losing now. Here’s to becoming healthier…minus the Christmas markets and the slice of cake I just ate at Freelance Friday!

As for the C word. Christmas that is, I’m beginning to write my gift list for what I have to buy for my friends and family and after I’ve taken advantage of some Black Friday offers this evening I’ll be able to say that I’ve officially started my Christmas shopping. I’m trying to buy from small businesses as much as I can this year but there will be the inevitable amazon purchases for the gamers in my life so here’s to trying my best. I’ll be making some festive gift guides as usual so look out for those in the next week or so.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Film Review of Tomorrowland & Win £250 and a years Odeon membership

Being a huge Disney fan and a film buff to boot – Tomorrowland was definitely on my must see list of films this year. Topher was quite reluctant to go but truth be told, I made him. I knew he would love it despite him insisting he wouldn’t. Mere minutes into the film, he leaned over and said “I love this film”. I win.

Unlike the usual releases that show all the good bits in the trailer, this did not give anything away. I had a vague idea of there being a land called Tomorrowland that people were trying to get to. Intuitive I know! Apart from that I had no clue.

I’m not going to give away anything but just take my word for it and go see it. It’s so refreshing to see a film that isn’t a reboot or a sequel/prequel. During the trailers I had to lean over to Topher and say “What year is it?!” with the Robin Williams in Jumanji meme in my head of course!

As well as a decent amount of action, there was a good plot and lots of laughs along the way. Plus it’s got Hugh Laurie in it. I loved the three main characters and the message behind the film was a positive one. Don’t give up! This will definitely be one I add to my DVD collection when it’s released.

Speaking of films, Democracy who are a PR company I met at Blog On Mosi last month emailed me recently to inform me about a competition for all you film buff’s out there. Fancy winning a years membership to Odeon cinemas? I thought that might get your attention!
CSAlternateEndingsLogo are holding a competition called “The Alties”. Pick your favourite film and genre and change the ending in 750 words or less. Think Marty shouldn’t have gone back to the future? Or Woody should have gone to college with Andy? Or what if Jack and Rose just shared the damn floating door? Write your own alternate ending. Genre’s to pick from are Comedy/Rom com, Action & Adventure, Sci-fi/Horror, Family/Animation, Drama/Thriller. Plenty of options to pick from!

The best entry from each genre wins £250 and a years membership to Odeon Cinemas. That’s a pretty cool prize! Writing isn’t exactly my forte but Topher is all over it so fingers crossed for him. If you’re interested in entering yourself, check out the competition here for details. You have until 28th August. Good luck!

What’s on your watch list for releases this year?
