My Week #66 – Facing my fears

my week #66 - 2

*Painting *Dinner at Vapiano

*Facing my fears 100ft high up! *Pickles getting cozy in my dressing gown

*Engagement party for Topher’s school friend *Who needs a teddy when you have Pickles?

*Yep, you read that right – candy cane flavoured crisps *Pizza at Mackie Mayor

So my week #66 is actually a fortnight edition since I missed it last week.

I’ve been all over the place the last couple of weeks. Week one was a busy one full of blogger stuff. Topher and I went to Vapiano’s to celebrate #WorldPastaDay and then later on in the week I met up with some of the lovely ladies from WeBlogNorth to have afternoon tea 100ft in the air even though I’m afraid of heights (as you do!). I’ll be blogging about the latter soon! Then on Friday we attended the engagement party of one of Topher’s school friends which was a nice evening.

It was a great week overall and in my spare time I got some more painting done and had lots of kitty cuddles with the furbabies.

This past week however has been cack. Just ick.

Topher got sick at the beginning of the week (thank god it was half term!). So bad in fact that we had to make a trip to the walk in centre on Wednesday. Luckily by Thursday morning he was feeling so much better. Which was a relief because then I got sick. Wednesday night to Friday morning I felt like death warmed up and then cooled down (and then warmed up again). Bleh. On the bright side, we weren’t ill at the same time so we could take care of each other. And we got to spend Friday together when we were both well again.

We went into town on Friday so I could go to Freelance Friday

But we also got some shopping done. We paid a visit to the Harry Potter section in Primark where we are both now proud owners of house jumpers (him Slytherin and me Hufflepuff of course). And while I was at Ziferblat, Topher may have got me a few more tsum tsums for my collection! Good husband.

And that was our fortnight! Here’s to a healthier one next week.

My Week #33 – New Year’s & French Lunches

*Salt Beef Sandwich at Home Sweet Home *Quiet New Year at Claire and Steve’s

*Sunny! *Went to a mastermind with some lovely freelance ladies

So Happy New Year! It was a nice quiet one for us. We just went round to Claire and Steve’s, played games and ate lots of cheese. The week before was spent mentally preparing for the New Year and Topher and I went for a meal at Home Sweet Home for a treat. My salt beef sandwich was nice but there was a little too much mustard on it for my liking. I like to be able to taste the main ingredient in a sandwich and not just the sauce. Just me?

Since the 1st I’ve been trying to get my head around the new year. I thought I’d hit the ground running but I’ve kinda fallen flat on my face! I have managed to do a little bit of cleaning and get my bullet journal all set up but besides that I’ve been feeling a bit lazy. It’s not the end of the world and I think it’s a bit unrealistic to expect a switch to be flipped on January 1st.

But on the bright side I lost 2 and a half pounds at Slimming World which has eliminated the damage I did at Christmas. And I went to a mastermind with some of the freelance friday ladies where we ate delicious French food and set goals for each other for 2017. Mine is to pitch 10 potential clients before the end of the month. Daunting but I’m going to get it done. Feel the fear and do it anyway and all that jazz.

Topher and I went to the cinema to see Passengers which was really good but there are quite a lot of plot holes. We want to head back soon as we would like to see Why Him? and A Monster Calls. Apart from Beauty and the Beast, I’m not sure what else is out this year so I’ll have to take a look as we plan on continuing to fully use our Cineworld passes.

How was your New Year’s?

My Week #29 – Markets and Photos and Beasts

*Saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them *The Refuge

*Had a photoshoot for Begin.Create *The Christmas Markets are here!

It’s been a busy week full of work, films and fun. It all started off with the cinema to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. One word: Amazing! I loved it so much and all the way through the film I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I loved it. For once, I’m happy about a film turning into a franchise.

On the Begin.Create front, I had a photoshoot this week with Katya of Katya’s Cake Hole so I now have some pretty pictures to put on my website. Yay! It involved a lot of wandering around Manchester and posing awkwardly while getting heckled by builders! Luckily not one comment was sexist, ha ha!

Yesterday, Topher finally had a day off during the week so we went to the Christmas markets. I was really looking forward to it and we had a lovely day walking around and eating everything. I managed to find a place that did beef sausages for the first time at the markets ever so I happily got a hot dog followed by a mulled wine and a nutella crepe. Still feel full thinking about it.

At Slimming World I lost another pound bringing my total weight loss this time up to 1 stone and 4 and a half pounds. Woop! I’m still 1 stone, 6 pounds away from my target but I’m happy that I’m consistently losing now. Here’s to becoming healthier…minus the Christmas markets and the slice of cake I just ate at Freelance Friday!

As for the C word. Christmas that is, I’m beginning to write my gift list for what I have to buy for my friends and family and after I’ve taken advantage of some Black Friday offers this evening I’ll be able to say that I’ve officially started my Christmas shopping. I’m trying to buy from small businesses as much as I can this year but there will be the inevitable amazon purchases for the gamers in my life so here’s to trying my best. I’ll be making some festive gift guides as usual so look out for those in the next week or so.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

My week #17 – Cocktails, dresses and all the food

my week 17-2

*Freelance Friday at Ziferblat *Lunch in Piccadilly Gardens

*Being a tourist in our own town (post coming up) *Bubblegum colada cocktail

*The first paper flower prototype *VIP treatment

*Afternoon tea with Claire, Emma and my mum

So this week was pretty special. On Monday I spent the day trying on wedding dresses! Exciting times. It was really fun and as well as the three places we went to (separate post to come) we had afternoon tea at Sugar Junction in Altrincham. They also have a branch in the Northern Quarter. Surprisingly, one of the first dresses I saw has the potential to be The One. Watch this space. I’m certainly not done with dress shopping yet though!

As for the afternoon tea it was very nice, though as usual, it killed me! As well as the sandwiches, mini quiche, huge scone and cakes, there was a full slice (and huge btw) of Victoria Sponge. Food coma indeed. Luckily, when I couldn’t finish the staff were kind enough to let me take a doggy bag. I was pleased with my decision both then and later on when I had the cake slice and a chocolate tart for tea later on. Super healthy me.

And continuing on the wedding front, I decided to take the plunge and start experimenting with the DIYing side. This begins with paper flowers. So far, so good. Prototype 1 was a success but I hit a stumbling block while trying to find coloured card and crepe paper to match my wedding colours. Apparently fuchsia is not a colour that exists inside craft shops, grrr. The search continues…

So, more food. Topher and I returned to Mowgli again (3rd time in 2 months), this time with a couple of friends and once again it was amazing. We tried some more new things and I am still in love. I really shouldn’t be writing this while hungry. We also had some cocktails and I still haven’t found an espresso martini that beats the one I had in London 3 years ago. One day.

On that same day, Topher and I went on a bit of a wander and I brought my camera. Photos were taken, Pokemon were caught. In other news, we’re gearing up for our trip down to Devon next week and squeezing in our own mini breaks before then. Topher is at Bloodstock and I’m at a hen party. Let the antics begin!

#BEDM Day 13: A Day In The Life

Happy Friday the 13th! Well I don’t know about you but I had a pretty good day considering it’s supposed to be a day full of bad luck. Anyway, here’s my day in the life. One in which I leave the house. I know, exciting right? Yes I’m a hermit.

So what better way to start than with the breakfast of champions? Porridge with bananas, cinnamon and almond milk, half a grapefruit and a big mug of coffee. This is how my day starts. After a quick shower at least. Just like when I had a 9-5, reading blogs in the morning over breakfast is really important to me. It’s my favourite way to set myself up for the day.

After a marathon of reading, I get a few errands around the house done before getting dressed and ready to head out. But not before stopping to give this one a quick cuddle!

Pickles has a current obsession with sinks. He’ll meow and rub his head against the tap until you turn it on. Then he’ll madly bat his paw at the stream of water. Silly boy.

Quick hair check!

Then it’s a speed walk to the train station. How nice was the weather today? A bit on the chilly side but I got some use out of my sunglasses.

Arriving at Zieferblat for Freelance Friday I stop for a glass of cucumber & mint water. Yum!

Then I set myself up and get to work (and chat to my fellow freelancers!).

I’ve got to head home a bit early today so I can drop Topher at work so I get the crowded rush hour train home. Luckily I manage to grab a seat.

Another lovely walk home. I like this commute!

Once I’ve dropped Topher off, it’s time to make my dinner of steak, potatoes and veg and then I can relax.

The rest of the evening is spent watching Netflix and waiting to pick up Topher. Then just a bit more work I need to finish off and it’s off to bed with me. Not a bad day as Friday the 13th’s go!

What does your day look like?
