Home Again: A catch-up

Home Again: A catch-up

So today marks one week since I got home from Jordan. Where has the week gone? And when did it get so cold? To be honest it’s a relief – I can finally sleep comfortably at night again. And layers are my friend.

After an über lie in today, I’ve been pretty productive after jumping straight back into work this week. Stuff has been cleaned, clothes have been organised and plans have been made. So here’s what’s happening.

A shopping trip was needed

I realised that I had no office appropriate winter gear so headed to Primark yesterday with a budget. I was doing so well until I wasn’t. Damn you homeware section. It all started with a halloween pumpkin LED light and escalated quickly from there. Topher was pretty annoyed until he saw the Winnie The Pooh Honey Pot (mug) I brought home for him. Bit sneaky of me but #noregrets. To be honest I think I did pretty well over all and came out with pretty much everything I need including some new ankle boots and some tops to go with my black cord pinafore.

I’m also pleased I managed to hold it in when I popped into the Disney Store that same day. Hot damn I know where my pennies are going this winter! Fellow Disney fans will know the usual pain of heading into a Disney Store and it all being stuff for little kids. Well, not any more. There is a ridiculous amount of merchandise for adults now. The buying team at Disney are killing it. If I hadn’t have been struggling under the weight of my giant Primark bag I might have caved and bought everything.

Oh and in other news I got my hair chopped off again. My head feels so much lighter and it’s awesome.

Routines are coming back

Earlier this week Topher and I signed back up for the gym and he’s been twice. I haven’t been yet but have full plans to head back tomorrow. Wish me luck! As for our weight loss, I was super pleased to find out that I’d lost half a pound at Slimming World since before the holiday. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever lost weight on holiday! It’s definitely all down to having a dress that I needed to still fit into for my cousin’s wedding. Otherwise I would have been left with a black tie event to go to and nothing to wear. So now I have the motivation to keep going as we’re home again and I can eat when and what I want. Target here I come.

Topher and I also want to get back into the routine of going to the cinema as we barely used our Cineworld passes over the summer. Money down the drain so that needs to change. Any suggestions of what to see? I like the look of Searching.

Holiday dreams are becoming reality

So officially our next holiday is Japan in Easter. I’m so excited I can’t even. While in Jordan I was doing so much “Japlanning” (thank Topher for that one!) and I’m pretty sure everyone in my family has gotten an earful of our plans.

This week we were discussing holiday allowance for 2019 at work and for the first time in a while I realised we could also go somewhere else. So I mentioned to Topher that if we were able to save enough and I could get the reward flight I’ve been saving miles for, maybe we could even do Hong Kong next October. It’s safe so say that he’s totally up for that as we want to complete all 6 Disney resorts in the world so watch this space!

What I’ve been reading and watching

I read three books in Jordan as well as another since I got back. My favourite was Happiness for Humans by P.Z.Reizin* so definitely recommend that one! It’s about an AI called Aiden that is chatting to a human called Jen and decides to help her find a boyfriend unbeknown to her.

I went to the cinema once in Jordan too and saw The Meg. I can best describe it as something along the lines of Deep Blue Sea (remember that film?). It’s a B movie but takes itself a little too seriously. I think it would have gone down a little better if it was a little sillier because that’s what I was expecting from it.

I watched the last episode of Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale and totally screamed at June at the end. Pretty sure I wasn’t the only one who did too.

I’ve gotten Topher into watching Brooklyn 99 too so we’ve been watching that together. I started from the beginning for him so can’t wait to catch up to where I got to.

Also on Netflix I was able to watch To all the boys I loved before which was really sweet. It’s exactly the type of film I would have loved when I was a teenager. Plus it was so refreshing to have a minority lead in a teen film where the story isn’t about the fact that she’s a minority. More of this please. And last night I watched Sierra Burgess is a Loser. So cool to see Barb from Stranger Things be the star and my teenage self also loved this film. What are you reading and watching at the moment.

Upcoming posts

So you may have noticed that up until recently I completely lost my blogging mojo for a bit there. Well it’s not totally back but it’s on the way I think. I got a burst of motivation during Jordan and I have a whole bunch of posts planned for the season ahead so we’ll see how it goes. I need to write about Jordan (as well as make the video) as well as a few other bits and pieces so I’m just trying to ease my way back in and not put too much pressure on myself. Fingers crossed!

Currently Loving – July 2018

So it’s still hot. Too hot. On the bright side, this is definitely preparing me for my trip to Jordan next month. Less than three weeks away!

As a way of a catch up, I thought I’d let you know what I’m currently loving this month. Because readers, life right now is good.

Maybelline Master Camo Correcting Pen – In Green*

I never thought I’d find myself talking about makeup on here but here I am. I bloody love this green stick. As long time readers will know, I suffered with acne for most of my twenties and after being prescribed some amazing face stuff it went away. Unfortunately early this year, a portion of it came back – but only on a small section on one of my cheeks. Being quite stubborn, it’s stuck around despite using the same medication as before.

Since this acne patch isn’t really proper blemishes, just a whole load of redness, this correcting pen is perfect for making the patch blend in with the rest of my face. I really wish I’d known about it before as my entirely red face could have used it for a number of years. But since I’m not into makeup – I didn’t know it existed. Thanks to Queer Eye For The Straight Guy on Netflix, I do now!

Brooklyn Nine Nine

I may be many many years late to the party but all the more to binge, don’t you think? Starring Lonely Island comedy star Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine Nine depicts the funny antics of a police squad in Brooklyn, NY. Not only is it hilarious (and even funnier as you get into it) it also has Terry Crews in it which is a winner in my book. Definitely recommended if you’re looking for a 20 minute comedy to watch. I do remember watching one episode back when it first came out but I didn’t get into it. I always find that shows like these are a grower – just like Parks and Rec & The Office. Watch a few episodes before you make up your mind.

The fact that we have lampshades now

Yes I’m excited about lampshades. And no, there’s nothing particularly interesting about them – they’re just plain cream. I think it’s more what they represent. Or that I’m just sad. You decide – either way, I don’t care! I don’t even have a picture of them up – but to be honest I think you can use your imagination.

So why I’m so happy about them. Number one – we just had bare bulbs hanging there before so they already look better. Number two – it represents that we have disposable income now so I can actually justify getting them. Number three – this is our first home that we own so it’s up to us to supply the shades. So they’ve been bare for two years.

We don’t even have lampshades in our bedroom or the guest bedroom yet but the fact that we have them in the hallway and landing now makes me really happy. The first impression you get when you step into our home now is that we are functioning adults. Functioning adults who have silly things in frames but I love that. And now that I’ve written around 200 words on lampshades, I’ll swiftly move on.

To random adventures!

I will be doing a full couple of posts on Topher & I’s anniversary trip to Anglesey soon but for now I just wanted to say how has it been a year? It seems like this year has flown by. Didn’t we just get married? Anyway, still head over heels for my hobbit and I can’t wait to plan many more adventures with him.

Los Angeles Honeymoon Travel Diary

So on Day 7 of our honeymoon, we finally arrived in Los Angeles

Since our schedule was so tight and we prioritised visiting theme parks for this portion of the trip, we basically had a single afternoon to see as much as we could in LA. So after lunch we hit the ground running.

Hollywood Sign

First up was the Hollywood sign. To be fair we could have just left it at this picture but I had scouted out a viewing point where I could park and get out of the car on Google Maps so we headed on up the super windy hills.

Los Angeles - Hollywood street

Hello Hollywood. Topher was a bit disappointed as he thought it would be bigger but I had to remind him that it is big, we just weren’t particularly close!

Tourist selfies of course!

Griffith Park

Then it was back in the car to drive to Griffith Park. It was huge. I wanted to find the carousel where Walt Disney used to take his daughters and where he got the idea for Disneyland. It was touch and go but we found it!

Griffith Observatory

Back in the car for our final driven stop which was Griffith Observatory. As far as I remember (not a lot!) I never went here with my family so this was a first for the both of us. It’s just so iconic! There is paid parking available but you can actually park at the bottom of the hill and hike up for free.

We were tired but it was definitely worth it. I think it took us about 20 mins. Warning – it is steep!

By this time it was time to check into our hotel, The Moment. I was really happy with our stay here and I definitely recommend it. The Sunset Blvd location is ideal and the hotel is clean and modern.

Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theater

After getting all checked in, we headed straight out and walked about 15/20 minutes to Hollywood Blvd so we could see the Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theater. It was super busy but we had a good time trying to spot names we knew on the street.

Unfortunately they seemed to be setting up for an event at the Theater so you couldn’t walk right up to it and look at the hand prints but we saw a few cool ones from the edge.

Absolutely shattered we headed back to the hotel as we would need our rest for Universal Studios in the morning!

My Week #64 – Another Adventure

*Two peas in a pod *Hello October

*Tampopo meal *My presents from Topher

So last week I started thinking about mini holidays for Topher and I to go on next year.

We’ve already got Jordan on the agenda but for way longer than 3 days! Plus Emma will be coming for her first visit so really looking forward to that. After writing about European destinations I had in mind, they were my first port of call.

My only obligations were that I have to stick to school holidays and we have to fly with EasyJet. I’ve been saving nectar points for years and found out that after the 13th October 2017, you won’t be able to spend them with EasyJet anymore. Worry not as you can still use them with other flight brands like Expedia but I had my eyes on EasyJet so I started looking.

Now I can only blame my friends Claire and Steve (and my own addiction) for what comes next but at the time, they were on a break in Disneyland Paris. So after finding holidays to my chosen destinations were more costly than I thought they were, I just thought out of curiosity to just see how much a trip to DLP would cost. And guys, it was a whole lot cheaper than I thought it would be. In fact, it was only a little bit more expensive than the other destinations I looked at. So…

Topher and I are going to Disneyland Paris in February 2018!

I am beyond excited. As much as I wanted to go somewhere new in 2018, I don’t care. This trip is actually affordable for us and we get to stay onsite for the very first time in both our lives. My Disney bug has truly reawakened and I can’t help but start researching the trip already. That and fall headfirst into Disney hauls on Youtube – don’t fall down that black hole unless you have a serious amount of time on your hands! So yeah, all pretty exciting!

In other news, not much else going on

Topher and I went to a blog dinner at Tampopo which I’ll be blogging about next month (my content calendar is chock full of honeymoon stuff!) and I now want Pad Thai. Other adventures included me getting a free half hour session at the gym with a trainer and not being able to walk for two days after. Legitimately unfit over here! Luckily when I go to the gym by myself I seem to be doing a good enough job that I have that slight sore feeling the next day so here’s hoping I can keep it up because I already got a load of gym gear.

In terms of work my schedule is pretty open so if anyone needs a VA or social media training, take a look at my hire me page and see how I can help you and your blog and/or business.

And finally, I have started collecting Tsum tsums!

Thanks to my lovely husband who got me my first two – Pascal and Carl. Topher actually told me that he bought some Magic Cards for himself and to keep an eye out for them in the post as I work from home. So when they arrived, I called him like he wanted and as it turns out, they weren’t magic cards but presents for me! The two tsum tsums and a plush of the owl from Sleeping Beauty that I picked up and put back in the Times Square Disney Store.  This was yesterday and I was having a crappy day so it was so nice and cheered me up. I knew I kept him around for a reason!

Also, finally gone through our wedding photos and just had to share this graphic combo I made of some silly photos of me taken by our photographer. Definitely not a normal bride but it made us laugh!

Back from Honeymoon

I’m back and I’m jet lagged! Topher and I had the most amazing time on our honeymoon and I can’t believe how much we managed to squeeze into a two week period. So much so that Topher says I killed him. I might have killed myself as well. I’m so tired but it was totally worth it.

I managed to vlog almost the entire time so I now have what it probably a couple of hours of film to edit through. And I don’t even know how many photos I took. It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks! I’ve decided to split down the next few blog posts into location and food separately as it would be way too much for the individual posts otherwise. So I’ll be starting with next week and talking about what I did in New York, followed by what I ate in New York (it was a lot!).

In other news, we got back on Wednesday morning and since then I’ve been trying to sort things out and get back into a routine. Topher went straight back to school and I started doing client work again too. I’ve also been trying to tidy up the house and get some new routines set up for myself. One of the “souvenirs” I got in New York was a new bullet journal so I’ve almost got that all set up and I love it.

In health news, I had an amazing time trying all the different foods but I’m looking forward to eating some more healthier things in future. I went to Slimming World yesterday and found I had put on 6lbs in the two weeks I was away. I’m impressed it wasn’t more and I think it would have been if I had not been walking and if I had been drinking alcohol as well as all the food. So it could have been a whole lot worse. I’m also planning on joining a gym soon so if anyone has any tips, hit me up – I’m a complete newbie.
