My Week #50 – Sunshine and Crafting

*Setting up my brand new bullet journal *Sunshine

*Pickles making a mess of our seating plan *Flower making

Hello May and hello sunshine!

Even though it’s been deceptively sunny (still not warm enough for sandals dammit), I can really feel that summer is on the way. Days are getting longer and my wedding is getting closer and closer. Eeek! We visited the venue at the beginning this week and we’ve pretty much got our numbers sorted. So when we got home we set to work on the seating plan. It was really hard, but Topher took the lead and we got it done. Another thing ticked off. And I took photos of them before the cats came and destroyed the whole thing. I guess you’re asking for trouble if you’re playing with lots of scraps of paper on the floor.

I finally got my hands on some yellow tissue paper as well yesterday so I’ve started finishing off a load of the paper flowers. It’s really satisfying. I’ve also got an appointment for next week for my first dress fitting (squee) and I’m picking up my wedding ring and getting my engagement ring back today. I can’t wait. My finger has felt naked for over a month.

I lost half a pound at Slimming World.

It wasn’t as much as I would have hoped but at least it’s a step in the right direction. I’m not putting too much pressure on myself as when I look in the mirror I feel good about myself. I’m not quite where I want to be but I’ve come so far and I’m really proud of myself for that.

The living room is functional again

All the furniture is back in – I’ve just been trying to sell it so I can get the new stuff in. Fingers crossed the eBay listings I’ve got on go well this weekend!

And that’s about it.

My Living Room – The Before Shot

As you know, I’m currently decorating my living room. Exciting times! So here are some photos of what it looked like before.

Living Room - main view

As you can see I have kind of started already with the bit of paint on the wall and the ripping of the wallpaper but apart from that, this was how the room looked.

There were 3 main things about the room we didn’t like.

The Light

As I mentioned in my living room inspiration post, the light fixture we currently have is terrible. It barely gives off any light so the room always feels a bit dingy and yellow.

The Floor

As much as I like carpet, with 2 cats and having long hair, it was always a nightmare to clean. So we’ve got in wood flooring! It’s already down and I love it so much.

The furniture/decor

For a room that we spend most of our time in, I’ve always felt very bleh about it. Everything was functional but I just didn’t like it. The sofa set is around 15 years old and has served its purpose for us. We can’t wait to get a corner sofa set and we’ve already picked it out.

Living room - wallpaper

As for the rest of the furniture, being renters and now first time homeowners, none of it matches. Plus, it all attracts clutter like the plague. Topher and I aren’t the tidiest of people and this furniture is not helping! So we’re getting rid of the dresser entirely and getting a TV unit that has a little more storage.

Eventually I also want to sort out the cupboard under the stairs so that there’s room for things like our bags that as you can see, we just dump in a pile behind the door at the moment. And we’re also looking to replace the cat tree as it is dying a slow death. Besides, Pickles especially needs something were he can stretch to scratch if that makes any sense.

So at the moment the floor and the walls are done, it’s just all the furniture we need to sort out now. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to show the finished room by the end of the month!

My Week #48 – Paint Samples & Honeymoon Wardrobes

*Paint samples for living room *My Office

*Luna *Purty necklaces from Eclectic Eccentricity

So it looks like operation living room is a go!

We unexpectedly came across a great deal with some flooring and the whole thing spiralled from there. Now that we’re both working enough hours it’s possible to decorate the living room a lot earlier than we hoped. Yay! We’ve picked out our wall colour (the one on the right) and we’ve picked out a sofa. So stay tuned for before and after photos to come next month.

Honeymoon wardrobe is also a go!

After realising that by the time I would want to get summery clothing for our honeymoon, there wouldn’t be any left in the shops, I started the hunt. Luckily I’ve got a lot of things covered but there’s some essentials that I need. I did a small shop yesterday at New Look and got tan sandals, sunglasses and leggings and I just got a dungaree dress from H&M which arrived today! I’ll do a post soon on my mini haul. It’s so nice to be able to shop again.

I lost half a pound at Slimming World.

I was hoping for more but to be honest I’m happy with losing something. After all it was easter weekend and I did indulge a little bit. Only half a pound away from my lowest weight at this group and 2 and a half pounds from my lowest weight ever at Slimming World. Hoping to smash one if not both targets this week.

And in other news…

my week #48 - fibre
It’s no secret that the internet at my house (and area) is so terrible that I’ve had to get rid of it all together but after a year of constantly checking the “when will I get fibre” page on Openreach’s website, we finally moved up a stage. So according to this, we should have fibre by the end of the year! Result!

It finally feels like things are starting to fall into place.

Living Room Inspiration – Mood Board

It’s no secret that I am not currently pleased with the way our living room looks.

It’s our favourite place to spend time in in the house, however it is by far the ugliest room. It’s currently a mis-match of our second hand furniture; the sofa from my parent’s house that has a tear in the cushion and gives me a back ache when I sit in it, the oak dresser that is just there for convenience, the stripy rug that I love but doesn’t really fit, the concrete coffee table that weighs a tonne and the tv unit that is just there for function.

Then there’s the dirty magnolia walls and the pièce de résistance that is the flowery wallpaper I hate.

Living room now

That’s going to be so satisfying when I rip it all down!

So to the topic of this post. Inspiration!

Topher and I both look forward to decorating this room and we’ve decided on our favourite colour of purple along with grey. We’re not sure which will be on the walls but it will be one of the two. Either way, once that’s been done the next thing to go will be the beige carpet.

Hardwood Floors

Being cat owners and also owners of our own hair, you can imagine that vacuuming is a laborious task that is a bane to our existence. Introducing hardwood floors will be the cure. Yes they get dirty and dusty but it’s so much easier to clean! The cat hair tends to get embedded in the carpet at the moment and Topher has to brush the floor with a lint brush to free it before vacuuming. So being able to just vacuum, sweep or mop will be amazing!

Lighting

Another annoying feature of the room at the moment is the current lighting fixture. It’s one of those traditional three armed lights (kind of like this) with frosted glass. It’s absolutely useless. You turn on the light and you wonder why you did. You get barely any light from it. The lights point to the ceiling so any light just goes up there and because of the frosted glass, no light escapes out to the actual room.

I can’t wait to get a lighting fixture that actually lights up the room! Currently the room just feels really dim and dark all the time.

Furniture

We’re planning on having a grey corner sofa which will definitely ease the arguments on who gets to stretch their legs out and we’ll also get a two seater snuggle chair so that we have room for guests. The two arm chairs we have at the moment just take up way too much room.

I also can’t wait to get a TV unit that hides cables away. Currently all ours are out on display which isn’t ideal when you’ve got curious cats about.

And speaking of the cats, we need to get a new cat tree. Part of their’s has broken and the rest is on it’s last legs so our eyes are peeled for a replacement.

Finger’s crossed we can save up for this room redecoration by the end of the year!

Pieces of home

Now that me and the bf have settled in a bit into our flat, here’s some little snippets of our home.

DSC00619

“Some like it hot” is definitely in my top 5 favourite films of all time so I had to have this when I saw it at Vintage Village. And yes we are complete children – the soft toys have to be displayed.

DSC00633

I’ve been looking of one of these little shelf things to display my travel bits and pieces for years. Spotted this one a couple of weeks ago and am loving the bright happy colours. The frame next to it was a car boot find that I painted with chalkboard paint. Now all I need is the chalk and to decide what colour to paint the frame. Just seen is our table cloth that you may or may not recognise as the fitting room curtain from my old Afflecks shop. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

DSC00641

I love this rug. It was bought in Egypt and has been in my family over 20 years. Bright colours are awesome 🙂

DSC00643

My bargain of a vintage magazine rack from Vintage Village.

DSC00645

Another Vintage Village find; Percy the biscuit jar penguin. I love him even though he can be a bit creepy at times. This marmite tin was a TKMaxx find which me and the bf both adore. Me because of the pretty pastel colours and him because he loves marmite.
