Home Again: A catch-up

Home Again: A catch-up

So today marks one week since I got home from Jordan. Where has the week gone? And when did it get so cold? To be honest it’s a relief – I can finally sleep comfortably at night again. And layers are my friend.

After an über lie in today, I’ve been pretty productive after jumping straight back into work this week. Stuff has been cleaned, clothes have been organised and plans have been made. So here’s what’s happening.

A shopping trip was needed

I realised that I had no office appropriate winter gear so headed to Primark yesterday with a budget. I was doing so well until I wasn’t. Damn you homeware section. It all started with a halloween pumpkin LED light and escalated quickly from there. Topher was pretty annoyed until he saw the Winnie The Pooh Honey Pot (mug) I brought home for him. Bit sneaky of me but #noregrets. To be honest I think I did pretty well over all and came out with pretty much everything I need including some new ankle boots and some tops to go with my black cord pinafore.

I’m also pleased I managed to hold it in when I popped into the Disney Store that same day. Hot damn I know where my pennies are going this winter! Fellow Disney fans will know the usual pain of heading into a Disney Store and it all being stuff for little kids. Well, not any more. There is a ridiculous amount of merchandise for adults now. The buying team at Disney are killing it. If I hadn’t have been struggling under the weight of my giant Primark bag I might have caved and bought everything.

Oh and in other news I got my hair chopped off again. My head feels so much lighter and it’s awesome.

Routines are coming back

Earlier this week Topher and I signed back up for the gym and he’s been twice. I haven’t been yet but have full plans to head back tomorrow. Wish me luck! As for our weight loss, I was super pleased to find out that I’d lost half a pound at Slimming World since before the holiday. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever lost weight on holiday! It’s definitely all down to having a dress that I needed to still fit into for my cousin’s wedding. Otherwise I would have been left with a black tie event to go to and nothing to wear. So now I have the motivation to keep going as we’re home again and I can eat when and what I want. Target here I come.

Topher and I also want to get back into the routine of going to the cinema as we barely used our Cineworld passes over the summer. Money down the drain so that needs to change. Any suggestions of what to see? I like the look of Searching.

Holiday dreams are becoming reality

So officially our next holiday is Japan in Easter. I’m so excited I can’t even. While in Jordan I was doing so much “Japlanning” (thank Topher for that one!) and I’m pretty sure everyone in my family has gotten an earful of our plans.

This week we were discussing holiday allowance for 2019 at work and for the first time in a while I realised we could also go somewhere else. So I mentioned to Topher that if we were able to save enough and I could get the reward flight I’ve been saving miles for, maybe we could even do Hong Kong next October. It’s safe so say that he’s totally up for that as we want to complete all 6 Disney resorts in the world so watch this space!

What I’ve been reading and watching

I read three books in Jordan as well as another since I got back. My favourite was Happiness for Humans by P.Z.Reizin* so definitely recommend that one! It’s about an AI called Aiden that is chatting to a human called Jen and decides to help her find a boyfriend unbeknown to her.

I went to the cinema once in Jordan too and saw The Meg. I can best describe it as something along the lines of Deep Blue Sea (remember that film?). It’s a B movie but takes itself a little too seriously. I think it would have gone down a little better if it was a little sillier because that’s what I was expecting from it.

I watched the last episode of Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale and totally screamed at June at the end. Pretty sure I wasn’t the only one who did too.

I’ve gotten Topher into watching Brooklyn 99 too so we’ve been watching that together. I started from the beginning for him so can’t wait to catch up to where I got to.

Also on Netflix I was able to watch To all the boys I loved before which was really sweet. It’s exactly the type of film I would have loved when I was a teenager. Plus it was so refreshing to have a minority lead in a teen film where the story isn’t about the fact that she’s a minority. More of this please. And last night I watched Sierra Burgess is a Loser. So cool to see Barb from Stranger Things be the star and my teenage self also loved this film. What are you reading and watching at the moment.

Upcoming posts

So you may have noticed that up until recently I completely lost my blogging mojo for a bit there. Well it’s not totally back but it’s on the way I think. I got a burst of motivation during Jordan and I have a whole bunch of posts planned for the season ahead so we’ll see how it goes. I need to write about Jordan (as well as make the video) as well as a few other bits and pieces so I’m just trying to ease my way back in and not put too much pressure on myself. Fingers crossed!

Christmas Decorations Guide -Top Picks

So I know it’s only November but I have to drop the C word as today I’m talking about Christmas decorations.

I personally don’t put up my Christmas decorations until 1st December but there’s no harm in getting some nice bits before then. Please be noted that items with a * are affiliate links.

  1. Llama cushion, £58 – Anthropologie*

I see this saying everywhere this year but there’s just something about this cushion that I like. I think it’s the unusual shade of green it is. It doesn’t look like a Christmas decoration – it looks like something you could have all year round. And I like that.

  1. Bauble, £5 – Debenhams

This bauble is so simple and pretty. I love the detail on it.

  1. Jumper, £15.99 – New Look

I think im going to have to do a whole separate post on Christmas jumpers. I snuck one into this post with the lame excuse of “decorating yourself” but in actual fact I see a crap load of awesome xmas jumpers this year. So yep, will have to do another post.

  1. LED marquee light, £12.50 – Paperchase*

Have absolutely no room for a Christmas tree? This marquee light is perfect for a laid back tree which doesn’t need any decoration. I may have to get one for ours as long time readers know we can’t have a traditional tree as the cats tried to eat it!

  1. Wreath, £22 – Lizard Creative @ Etsy*

I’ve always dreamed that one day I’d live somewhere nice enough where I wasn’t afraid of putting a wreath on the front door. But until then, I’ll probably just get one to hang inside where I know it won’t get nicked! This one is gorgeous. It seems to be the only one this shop does but they are open to custom orders!

  1. Light Up Snowflake, £16 – Next*

Can you tell I’ve got a thing for lights at the moment? Isn’t this snowflake pretty? Another simple way of bringing Christmas into your home.

  1. Mug, £18 – Not On The High Street*

I think decor should include things like mugs as they’re something you use every day and why shouldn’t they be Christmassy? This one is absolutely gorgeous!

  1. Pom Pom Garland, £12.57 – £39.29 depending on length – Mailbox Happiness @ Etsy*

When it comes to decor, the walls should definitely get in on the action too. I’ve been saying I’ll make a garland for years but have never gotten round to it. I should probably just buy one like this and save myself the time.

  1. 5ft Christmas Tree, £55 – Paperchase*

I couldn’t do one of these and not include a Christmas tree – how amazing is this rainbow one?

  1. Bed Set, £20 – George

And finally, Christmas should be everywhere in your home (at least I think so!) so that shouldn’t stop at your bed. I have Christmas pjs so don’t see why I shouldn’t have festive bedding too.

Also, an honourable mention has to go to Primark for their Christmas range this year.

It’s awesome and of course, super affordable. How awesome are these Disney baubles? There are so many more in the range too.

And I’m tempted to get this light too. Only £8!

My Week #61 – Camping & Cats

*Wifefest *Fish and Chips *Pickles *Working hard

Did not do too much at all this week

The one cool thing was that Topher and I attended the wedding of one of my Freelance Folk friends, Michelle. It was festival themed and called Wifefest. We had such a great time! It was in a barn and there were games and irish dancing and a fish and chip van. Topher and I even stayed overnight in a tent. I’m not much of a camping person (like not at all!) but we survived the night and it was actually pretty fun. Afterwards we headed to a pub near our house for a Sunday lunch and then went to the cinema in the evening. I’ve now seen The Dark Tower and Girls Trip. Both really good.

I put on another 2 pounds at Slimming World

I’ve kinda lost the plot a bit. My focus is completely gone. But I haven’t lost hope. I think I just need to take a bit of time and get the honeymoon out of the way. Once that’s done I can climb aboard the wagon again. One of the Slimming World ladies pointed out to me that once I get back it will be about 14 weeks until Christmas so if I lost a pound a week that’s a stone. Until I get back I’m not going to beat myself up over it. In other news I really seem to have gotten my shopping bug back. And I blame this bag.

my week - bag It’s from Primark and it was all sold out but I managed to find one on eBay. Of course it was more expensive but I just really wanted it! I expect I would have paid that much anyway at another high street store so it doesn’t really bother me. Can’t wait to skip down Main Street with it. Less than 2 weeks to go!

My Week #60 – Shopping & Sandwiches

*Pickles thinks he’s Superman *Yummy sandwich at West Corner NQ

*Topher bought a horrific t-shirt *We found the Harry Potter section at Primark

The honeymoon is coming!

I’m beyond excited. We’ve been doing some shopping to make sure we have everything we need (and don’t need). Including a trip to Primark – how cool is their Harry Potter section btw? If you have a Primark near you, you should definitely check it out.We may have gone a tad overboard but it’s all stuff we’ll use.

I also found the leather jacket of my dreams at Primark. It’s not real leather of course but it really looks like it and it fits amazing. Plus it was only £14! Bargain times.

So now that Topher has been and come back from his festival we’re I’m in full on honeymoon mode. I finally got to sit down with him and go through everything we’re doing and he’s convinced that we’re going to collapse from exhaustion. Which may just happen. Look at my trips to London and calculate that by two weeks. Yep, we’re going to need so much sleep when we get home. Sorry Topher!

I’m now on the Youtube bandwagon

In terms of watching Youtube videos, I mean. Though I am looking to start vlogging myself. I’ve just been trying to psyche myself up for it. I never thought I had time for watching Youtube videos but apparently when you’ve run out of things to watch on Netflix you have a lot of free time on your hands! I’ve mainly been watching tip videos for different aspects of the honeymoon but I’ve also been watching stuff from some of the blogs I follow. Do you have a channel or a favourite channel to watch? Let me know, I’m looking for recommendations.

We went to West Corner NQ to celebrate our first month as a married couple

It’s a New York style diner. My salt beef sandwich was yum! It was nice and I had been looking to go there for awhile but it wasn’t out of this world if you know what I mean. Topher enjoyed his chicken burger but I think because we’re heading to New York, we’re just looking forward to the real thing. So excited!

Primark Haul – Totally Addicted to Stripes

As promised, here’s a look at my Primark haul as well as a couple of other purchases from New Look and H&M.

I’m properly thinking ahead now to my honeymoon and what I’ll be needing on the trip. After all, by the time it comes around in September, all the summery stuff would have disappeared from the high street.

While I was taking these photos in my office, Luna acted as my “assistant” so please excuse her need to sniff everything in a few of the shots! How can I say no to this face? Such a curious one!

Primark

So beginning with my stripes addiction head on, I had to laugh at myself when I picked up not one, not two but five stopped tops. I think I might have a problem! I definitely won’t be wearing all of these on the honeymoon but I was also thinking about my capsule wardrobe for when I get to my target weight. These will go with quite a few things already in my wardrobe and also with the pinafore I bought below.

Looks like I found my new uniform! Plus they were only £3 each so it was an easy decision. They’re all short sleeve apart from the red one which is long sleeves so that one is more for autumn/winter.

Now moving on to something a little less stripy, I immediately fell in love with this lightweight watermelon print shirt. The fabric is really soft and they also had it in an anchor print which I would have bought if they had had it in my size (boo!). This would be perfect for San Francisco which I have heard can get a bit on the chilly side.

Yes I do realise I picked up yet another stripy top (the checkout girl must have thought I was mad!) but isn’t it pretty? It was refreshing to see a top like this that wasn’t elasticated at the bottom. Thank you Primark! And I love the detail on the sleeves – I like that I can choose to either wear as is or push them down my shoulders to wear in a bardot style.

I finally settled on a day bag for the honeymoon. After going on and on about getting a small rucksack, I completely changed my mind and went for a small cross body style instead. Mainly for the reason that I feel I’ll be less likely to be pick pocketed this way. Such a worrier! Better safe than sorry though.

I love compartments so this does the job nicely! And it’s big enough to fit my purse but not big enough to be feeling like I’m lugging the world around with me. We will be doing a lot of walking after all.

So next on the agenda that I was missing out of my current summer wardrobe was footwear. I prefer sandals as I can walk miles and miles in them. This black pair below I actually got after I bought some tan ones in New Look further down but I had to get these as they were practically the same but for almost half the cost. So now I have a pair of black sandals and also a pair of tan. Covering all bases!

New Look

As I mentioned above, I got these tan sandals first. They fit in perfectly with the rest of my summer wardrobe and go with practically everything. Plus, they seem super comfy so far.

I have sunglasses again! These were as close as I could find to my old pair that broke last summer and it’s great to have them back.

H&M

You may or may not remember this dungaree dress* from a certain top picks post I did a while back. I just haven’t been able to get it out of my head since then. It’s the perfect piece for my capsule wardrobe. It’s plain so it can be paired with anything and I could wear it all year round. Short sleeve tops and leggings in the summer, tights and long sleeve shirts in the winter. Cost per wear would be amazing!

Primark Haul - H&M dress

At the time of putting it on my wish list, I didn’t realise it was part of H&M’s Conscious range. It’s great to know that a piece I plan on wearing a lot is environmentally friendly.

Primark Haul - H&M dress closeup

Just a word of warning though, sizing in this dress runs small! After dithering for awhile on whether to get a 10 (my final dress size when I finish) or a 12 (what I am now), I’m so glad I went with a 12. When it arrived in the post, I tried it on and was surprised to find that I could only just get it on! It fits but I wouldn’t dare eat in it. No food babies allowed here. So it’s a relief to know that by the time I lose another stone it will fit better.

So that’s my haul. All sorted now I think!

Have you bought anything nice recently?
