With the evenings getting darker and the days growing colder, I start adapting my routines to match. The heating comes on, flannel pjs are worn and bare feet around the house are switched for fuzzy socks. I start craving pumpkin, cinnamon and ginger. Breakfast reflects this. I’m a big fan of ginger and was excited to be offered a jar of ginger preserve to try out from Duerr’s.
I tend to stick to the usual thing for breakfast so I decided to experiment with this chunky ginger preserve. So here’s my 3 ways to incorporate it into your breakfast – mild to hot in terms of how adventurous you go!
Mild – Ginger Toast
Easy peasy – just go with the flow and put it on your toast for a kick in the morning.
Medium – Ginger Porridge
Still low maintenance but a fun twist on what can be quite a boring breakfast food. Just add a heaped tablespoon of the preserve to your porridge before you heat it up. Then add a dollop on top to mix in. Yum!
Hot – Ginger and Cinnamon American Pancakes
Now this is something out of the ordinary. Follow this recipe for regular american pancakes but add to the mix one heaped tablespoon of ginger preserve, one teaspoon of ground ginger and two teaspoons of cinnamon. Then cook as normal and add ginger preserve in between the pancakes, or just spread on top for sauce.
I made these for Topher and I and we loved them. Will definitely be making these again. I forgot how much I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and really look forward to trying out some more breakfast ideas to keep things interesting. I definitely recommend you do the same. Variety is the spice of life after all. Check out Duerr’s website for loads of fun recipes to try out. Thanks Duerr’s for giving me a kick!
Do you have the same thing for breakfast every morning?
